Skylar is passionate about children’s mental health. She believes that caring for our children’s social-emotional needs is as vital to development as caring for physical needs. This is what led Skylar to pursue social work as a career, and what led to her previous experiences working with children, both here in the United States and abroad.
Prior to starting at Small Talk, Skylar worked as a social worker in public schools for 4 years (1 middle, 3 elementary). She also worked as a College Transition Advisor for Michigan State University Migrant Student Services and as a substitute teacher at the elementary level, as well as some time spent teaching English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia. Though she absolutely loved working in schools, Skylar is very excited to now be working in an agency where a child’s social-emotional health and safety can be the topmost priority of the workplace.
Outside of the office, Skylar loves painting, drawing, traveling, and cuddling with her giant cat, Albus.
