Kirk Dewitt

Kirk DeWitt is the Detective for the Grand Ledge Police Department specializing in Child Abuse, CSAM, and Sexual Assaults investigations. Prior to full time employment with the City of Grand Ledge, Detective DeWitt worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer, working with offenders, and training Officers within the MDOC.
Detective DeWitt has received advanced training in several different victim, witness and suspect interview techniques and is certified as a Forensic Interview Specialist.
Detective DeWitt is instrumental in the promotion of Small Talk within Eaton County. His belief that we as Law Enforcement Professionals can do better for the people we serve led to a two-year research project culminating in a formal Sexual Assault Policy for the Grand Ledge Police Department. The focus of this policy is victim centered with a trauma informed response.
Detective DeWitt received his Danger Assessment Certification through John’s Hopkins School of Nursing. This certification is an Assessment and Weighed Scoring system to evaluate risk of lethal violence in intimate partner violence.
Detective DeWitt, represents the department by serving on several different committees. This service keeps the Chief of Police informed on current trends or changes within other organizations. This includes the Capital Area Sexual Assault Response Team, MSU SART program, Vulnerable Adult Net-work, Child Death Review Committee, Family Against Narcotics and Eaton County’s Multi-Disciplinary Team. Detective DeWitt is also a Crisis Intervention Specialist and Certified Hostage Negotiator.
In Detective DeWitt’s spare time he enjoys walking and riding bicycles with his wife Amy. He takes motorcycle trips with family and spends time with his 3 children and 4 grandchildren.
