Alex was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan and is a licensed counselor in the state. He completed his undergraduate degree in psychology in 2008 and a master's in counseling in 2010, both from Michigan State University. He is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy and specializes in working with children and adolescents who have been impacted by abuse and trauma. He is passionate about helping children heal and become empowered despite the traumatic experiences they have endured. Alex was the first employee hired at Small Talk Children's Advocacy Center at its inception in 2011 and became Executive Director in 2015.
In 2019, Brace was appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to serve with other professionals around the state on the Governor's Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Task Force and serves on several committees. Alex has trained on self-care, the CAC model, therapist recruitment and training, and more. He also serves as the Board Chair for the Children's Advocacy Centers of Michigan and as a parent representative on the Sex Ed Advisory Board for the Lansing School District.
